Martin Staaf has been performing music since his early years. The classical training and Atari computers paid off.
Martin’s most recent project Liquid Stranger has covered a truly wide horizon of sounds, notably two classic dubstep albums on the Rottun label and the more varied output on Interchill, including four albums and two ep’s, wherein "Dubstep sorcery and Rastafarian grooves collide and cascade within a genre the dance floor has never seen before". Beyond this there are releases on Warpath, numerous remixes, mashups and compilation tracks, as well as a long history of recording and playing live, as well as running a respected underground label from Sweden called Candymind.
Liquid Stranger live-sets in the US and around the world hit hard and keep Martin busy and connected to a large fanbase. More versatile than most, Liquid Stranger has built a name for a dubstep sound that is heavy and crunchy, displaying serious musical ability. Not satisfied to stick to one sound, Liquid Stranger's work on Interchill has run from deep and intricate electronica to heavy dubs and glitchy mid tempo exotica. From the lush soundscapes of Cryogenic Encounters to the crunkadelica and dubs of his album The Arcane Terrain the Liquid Stranger sound never repeats itself.
“I’ve always been a seeker,” admits the Liquid Stranger. “If I do something, I’m going to try to master it. I’ve always been interested in pursuits that mirror a bottomless well. They’re something you can never really grasp. As a musician, I always try to have as little control over the creative as possible. The less my ego and control issues get in the way, the better the music is that I make. On good days, I’m more of a channel than the brain behind it. Inspiration is such an untamed, crazy, and wild beast.”
With the work ethic of a master and accuracy of a marksman, Liquid Stranger delivers the goods and continues to adapt and innovate.
